Evaluation - Question 4

The digital technology we used, allowed us to create a final film and material that made it possible for us to be as creative as possible. Using different programmes it created a diverse way for us to experiment at different things.

Final cut pro.

We used final cut pro to edit together our film and our radio trailer. In final cut it is easy to see all the various pieces of footage we have and makes it easier to plan where each part should be put into the film. The bit i like most about final cut, is that there are separate layers which you can add different things too so that it has a personal aspect to it, by allowing you to layer up different aspects of footage, so that you can add effects, and fades etc, this also works especially well with sound.

This is a youtube video on how to use final cut pro for editing that shows some of the key aspects of editing footage.

One of the best things final cut has is the tool that allows you too see if the clips are joined together properly so that there are no jumps or gaps in it. This is really helpful as it is difficult to see if there is any gaps when looking at the monitor without zooming. Due to the way the programme is layer out it allowed me to edit quickly and effectively meaning I was able to edit it just how I wanted.

BEing able to see the part of the film you've already made so far as well as the clip you are about to add means that is is easier to see where to cut the clip rather than having one screen and guessing. Also having a cursor that you can drag across the clips all together means that it is better for making sure the clips contain continuity.

Photoshop.

I used Photoshop to make the film poster. This again has the function that allows me to use different layers so that i can work on separate parts of the poster at a time. I used different filters and effects so that i could change the base image into black and white, and added a high contrast to the image. This means that i was able to create a poster suitable to horror/thriller genre that we were trying to fit into.

I downloaded a font from the internet, one for the main title and one for the names of the producers etc. The names along the bottom are written in standard text for film posters. However the main title is one that is seen in standard film poster horror genre. This font looks good on the poster and i have transformed it so that it fits along the roof of the house on the poster.

Word.

To write our script i used word, mainly because of its simplicity and because it was the thing i have the easiest access too at the time. Due to me being overly familiar with the software it was easy to get the script done fast and effectively.
